Located on the edge of the Cumberland Plateau and the Highland Ridge in northern Alabama, with convenient access to I-65, the community of Hartselle is well known as “The City of Southern Hospitality.”

The Hospital
Hartselle Medical Center is a 150-bed acute-care hospital, accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). The hospital offers emergency services, with a full-time emergency physician, a Cardiac Rehabilitation outpatient program, a comprehensive Clinical Lab, both Intensive and Medical/Surgical Care Units, outpatient and inpatient Physical Therapy, Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology, and inpatient and outpatient Surgical Services. Other services include inpatient Geriatric Mental Health programs and Community Outreach programs. Hartselle Medical Center is recognized by the American Heart Association as a “Get with the Guidelines” facility.

The Community
Conveniently located 40 minutes south of Huntsville and 60 minutes north of Birmingham, Hartselle was recently named one of the 100 Best Small Towns in America. This friendly community of close to 14,000 people enjoys a low crime rate and exceptional educational opportunities. Over 3,000 students from K-12 are enrolled in the city’s public schools system, which is rated as one of the top three in the state of Alabama. Students consistently rank in the Top 10 in statewide achievement testing.

The historic downtown area of Hartselle features an assortment of more than 30 antique and gift shops. Many of the buildings, which feature 20-foot ceilings and hardwood floors, are listed on the National Register of Historic Sites. The annual Depot Days Festival, held on the last Saturday of September, celebrates the city’s railroad heritage. And the family-friendly Alabama Wings of Thunder Annual Charity Ride, held each May, features a motorcycle rally and run through Morgan County.

Recreation
World-class fresh-water fishing on the Tennessee River is only 20 minutes away, where you can also enjoy miles and miles of open water for boating, water skiing and jet skiing. For golfers, a championship 18-hole course offers spectacular views of nearby mountains and lakes. Just a few miles southwest of Hartselle is the William Bankhead National Forest, 180,000 acres of beautiful pine and hardwood trees. Bankhead is also the home of the Sipsey Fork, Alabama’s only National Wild and Scenic River, and the Sipsey Wilderness Area. With over 25,000 acres, it’s the third largest wilderness area east of the Mississippi, and one of only two such wilderness areas in the state. There’s also Lewis Smith Lake, famous for its exceptional bluegill and bass fishing.

The city’s popular Civic Center features a pool, baseball diamonds, and basketball and tennis courts. Located in the center of town, Sparkman Park is an 80-acre recreation facility with something for everyone, from racquetball courts and softball fields to an Olympic-size swimming pool.
