Letter from CEO Tim McGill to all staff members, distributed on the last day of service by Hartselle Medical Center

Dear Employees, Medical Staff, and Volunteers,
I want to extend my deepest appreciation to you – on behalf of Hartselle Medical Center, Capella Healthcare, and this community – for your service and dedication to this hospital and our patients. As I’ve said before, I’m confident that the rich tradition of care this hospital is known for will live on through each of you wherever you choose to serve in the future. I also want to provide you with this brief update on several items.
Future of the Hospital Property
While we know that it’s not sustainable for the facility to continue operating as an acute care hospital in the current environment, there are a number of other possibilities being evaluated right now. In fact, later today it will be announced that a tentative agreement has been reached for Huntsville Hospital to purchase the property and assets of HMC. Expectations are that the agreement will be finalized in the next 45 days. I’m very pleased that Huntsville Hospital is willing to evaluate providing some level of health care services in the community though there’s still work to be done in this area and no decisions have been made. The news release will be posted to our website.
Employee Assistance

Senior Connections
Letters were mailed last week to the 400+ members of HMC’s Senior Connections program, announcing an agreement with Parkway Medical Center for our members to become a part of PMC’s senior program MatureLife, which offers similar hospital and activity benefits. Additionally, Parkway leaders are evaluating the possibility of continuing to sponsor some local activities in Hartselle for the membership.
Medical Records
Information for former patients about acquiring medical records is available on our website. If an agreement with Huntsville Hospital is finalized, we will likely arrange for them to become custodian of these records. Updates will be provided on our website as well as to local news media.
I know these last few weeks have been a challenging time for everyone. But through it all, I am incredibly humbled by how our staff has continued to serve patients and support one another with great integrity and compassion. Please accept my deepest gratitude and best wishes.
