Cardiac Rehabilitation Center

Offering A Unique Outpatient Service For The Recovering Heart Attack Or Heart Surgery Patient

The Concept

Cardiac Rehabilitation is the process of actively assisting a person who has experienced a cardiac problem to achieve a state of health which will enable the individual to live life at a pace appropriate to his or her needs.

Eligibility

Persons who have had a heart attack, heart surgery, or are considered at high risk for heart disease may enter the program upon referral from their personal physician. The Medical Director will then determine if the individual is a candidate to participate in the program.

The Program

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Center provides professional guidance under careful medical supervision to assist the patient and family through a closely monitored and specially tailored phase of rehabilitation.

Upon referral of the patient’s personal physician, usually four to six weeks after a heart attack or open heart surgery, the patient enters the Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. The program consists of scheduled, individually prescribed exercise sessions for approximately one hour, three times a week. The patient’s heart is constantly monitored on telemetry during all exercise periods. There are also educational sessions which include instruction on the heart, medications, diet, activity, risk factor modification, and stress management. The entire program is planned and supervised by the Medical Director and Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse. The personal physician is kept informed of the individual’s progress.

Cost

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is medically prescribed and supervised so all or part of the cost is covered by Medicare and by most insurance companies. Our business office is prepared to assist in determining insurance coverage as well as to provide information regarding charges and billing.

Location

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is an extended service of Hartselle Medical Center. It is located within the hospital on the second floor.
